Civil war dresses
I am not sure if you have had the opportunity to see a live war in action. I had the chance of seeing America’s invasion of Iraq way back in 2002, and was immediately impressed with the professional and the fit-to-perfection dress code of our military persons. Being a historian, I tried and correlate things to how they were way back couple centuries before.
Not for one moment, it is being said that the Civil war dresses those days looked unprofessional and crouched!
Difference between Civil war dresses and present day military uniforms
• Present day military uniforms, you would find, are more compact and stylish in their looks. When military people wear them, it is almost to signify that they are ready for the battle. On the other hand, most of the Civil war dresses that were worn those days were an extension of what people wore for parties and in their homes.
• Present day military uniforms seem like a fighting kit in itself. The uniform seems to have spaces to keep magazines, grenades and other fighting tools. This is not to say that Civil war dresses were any different conceptually, but they definitely did not have the all-inclusive looks by any stretch of imagination.
You could yet be wearing a civil war dress and take a walk down the streets leisurely. You would not be stared up and down by people, and that used to be the key those days. In essence though, that has changed. Do the same with a military dress today, and people would immediately start scurrying for cover.
It is to be believed that people’s perceptions about the military dresses have changed. And so have the situations. At the end of the day, both these dresses are warfront dresses, and yet, it is surprising the way both of them get treated. As on date, you would find that Civil war dresses are hardly used actively anywhere!
If anything, these dresses at best are considered to be pieces of academic interest. Even if that is the case, you would surely love to know what people way back couple of centuries wore while they fought. And be prepared to be taken for a surprising ride alright!
Civil war dresses are just that. They are just so different from anything you would have seen today that it would take off a surprising reaction from you for sure.
